Description:
My name is Raj Abhyanker and I have a small U.S. patent law firm with an office in Silicon Valley, Bangalore, India and in Beijing China.
My practice is growing rapidly, and I am currently looking for a first or second year patent attorney (or U.S. patent agent) to help me scale the size of my firm. I offer training and mentorship, and have excellent venture backed and multinational clients.
Must be willing to relocate to Bangalore India for at least 2 years. I prefer paying hourly by the billable hour. Currently I have work to support someone full time (e.g., 1800 to 2000+ billable hours per year), though I am willing to consider part time and lifestyle based options. Initial pay will be $60/hour for a 1st year associate, and $40/hour for a first year U.S. patent agent. Prefer candidates with a strong technical background in EE or CS, but other technical discipines will be equally considered.

Hickman Palermo Truong & Becker LLP, a San Jose patent law firm, is seeking a CS or EE student, or recent graduate, as a part-time Technical Analyst. In this position, you will:
• Study patent applications that have been filed in the US Patent & Trademark Office, and related technical documents, to identify and select patents and technical publications representing the “state of the art” associated with each application.
• Perform online searches to locate copies of appropriate references in a variety of technical resources.
• Prepare citation lists of the references and complete forms for submitting the references to the USPTO.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain familiarity with the patent law field, to experience working with attorneys and staff in a professional office, and to see technical publications in a variety of computer-related fields. Training will be provided. You must be enrolled as a Computer Science or Electrical Engineering major, or have strong familiarity with a variety of computer and software technology. Other requirements include: strong internet search skills; strict respect for confidentiality; experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Reader; organization; and neat personal appearance appropriate for a professional office.
You will report directly to a partner of the firm. You will be classified as an independent contractor and will set your own working hours within HPTB’s general opening hours of 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Within these business hours, most flexible schedules will be fine and this is a good position for a student. Contract rate is $15 per hour for 8 to 20 hours per week. HPTB expects the contract term to be September 2, 2008 to December 31, 2008, but reserves the right to terminate the contract at any time. This position does not include benefits.
HPTB’s office is near San Jose International Airport. Free parking is provided. The office may be reached on public transit by taking VTA light rail
